*An alternate is someone who practices with the competition squad in the case that a cheerleader is injured. Alternates will be asked to attend two competition practices a week (one at Northview and one at Georgia Elite All Stars). In the case that a girl is injured, an alternate will be called upon to fill the position. At this point, the alternate will need to be at all practices until the injured cheerleader has recovered. It is important to note that once an injured cheerleader has recovered, they will return to the squad and the alternate will step down. However, if an alternate’s skills have surpassed those of the competing cheerleader fulfilling the same role, she may replace that cheerleader at the coaches’ discretion. The decision as to which alternate the coaches choose will be based on the skills needed to replace the injured cheerleader. The alternates will also need to have the necessary tumbling to fill the role. Ultimately, it is the cheerleader’s/parent’s decision if they want to be an alternate or not.
